About Us
Once upon a time, the epic wind and waves, magnificent landscape, rich culture and sublime quality of life in Cape Town made them never doubt their decision to settle here in this rainbow nation.
The two school friends Chris and Bernd moved from their home in Germany in the late 1990's to settle in Blouberg Cape Town - well known to be one of the best windsurfing, kiting and surfing areas in the world! With the opening of the Surfhostel in 1998, together, they became the pioneers of windsurf accommodation in Blouberg.
The Surfhostel has since evolved into the headquarters for avid wind, water and beach lovers. Although Bernd, now five times Cape Epic finisher has retired his shares to pursue his love of biking and bike tours, Chris carries on the legend of the Surfhostel along with his extraordinary team.
With local experience of over 26 years, there are few questions the Surfhostel team can't answer. From all the best surf and kiting spots – beginner to advanced, to the tourist attractions, car hire help, restaurant recommendations, wine farms and much more!

We're here to assist you anytime with advice and support—whether it's booking tours in and around Cape Town or answering your questions about water sports. After our daily weather check, we enjoy sharing the best spot of the day with our guests, either through our HostelTribe WhatsApp group or over a morning cup of coffee.

Yes, linen and towels for all rooms and apartments are included.
You can include an airport transfer with your booking, or you can take a rental car directly at the airport. Uber also works very well here – (using your app only to avoid scammers)
Check in at 2pm and check out at 11am – However you’re welcome to arrive earlier or vacate your room and hang out for as long as you need. You can also use the communal bathroom should you need a shower.
We have plenty parking behind our gates, as well as off street parking right in front of the Hostel.
We have a dedicated board and kite storage area to fit all your gear.
